Interview with Tennille King

After deciding that July was going to be Business Month on the blog I just knew who I wanted to interview. Without a doubt, when I think business, i Think Tink.

I can’t work out when this gal sleeps! Tennille runs her full time photography business as well as her design business. Not only that, but she is the Founder & Director or Think Pink Photography. Of course this is on top of being a beautiful wife and mother…

Grab a cuppa and get to know Tennille!

Name/Location - Tennille King / Central Ohio

How did you get started in photography?
I think I was around 10 years old when I got my first camera. I was always shooting pictures of people… sometimes things, but mostly people. I still have most of the pictures - they make me laugh now. In high school and college I had a variety of journalism coursework and I always gravitated to the photojournalistic side of things. Back then I worked in the darkroom developing and printing black and white images. As I got older, family and friends just relied on me to photograph events. I finally reached a point in my life that I could run a photography business properly, so I went for it and it’s been great!

img_9329.jpg

How long have you been in business?
1 years, gone on the third!

What was the one piece of advice you were given when you were first starting out that you like to pass on?
My husband has a saying that we often rely on for many things, and it truly was the foundation of my business… See it, believe it, make it happen.

Tell us about your style…
My images themselves are pretty clean and simple. I like a modern look that shows off who the person really is. I really connect with my subject so you can see that connection in the image. I keep my posing casual and relaxed with a twist of photojournalism thrown in here and there.

img_7714.jpg

What’s in your camera bag?
Canon 40D, 24-70L/2.8, 70-200L/4.0, 50mm/1.8 (primarily natural light, but adding in some off-camera flash with the 430EX and 580EX)

What is the strangest thing you take with you to a shoot?
Nothing strange really - I keep it pretty simple. Me, my hear, and a laid back personality!

img_7384.jpg

What is your most important marketing tool?
My Referral Program for sure, followed closely by my blog and my e-newsletter.

What is your best selling add-on product for 2008?
DVD Slideshows and Storyboards seem to be popular right now.

How do you handle workflow?
I pretty much know when I’m shooting the image how I’m going to process it. I shoot RAW, and use ACR to make some minor adjustments. I use Photoshop - some of my own actions, some from others - but really I tweak each image individually. I fully retouch each image so it’s shown as it’s going to be ordered.

10x20img_3847.jpg

How do you stay motivated?
It’s easy to stay motivated when you are lucky enough to do something you love for a living! Even when things are crazy, it really doesn’t feel like work!

Tell us about the Think Pink Organisation…
www.thinkpinkphotography.com
Think Pink Photography is a charitable organisation supporting idividuals and their families who have been touched by breast cancer. Our world-wide network of photographers have joined together for two main purposes - celebrating life and supporting the cause. We are celebrating life by offering charitable photography sessions for survivors and their supporters. Think Pink Photography is supporting the cause through donations and various fundraising efforts that support the Eric R. Beverly Family Foundation.

Photographers can download information about joining Think Pink Photography at:
www.thinkpinkphotography.com/photographerinfo.pdf

Last Summer, our friends Eric and Danielle Beverly asked if I would be willing to make a donation to their faoundation for each session I photographed in October in honour of Breast Cancer Awareness month. I just kept thinking there was more we could do than just a donation once a year. Then in October 2007, Think Pink Photography launched and we received an overwhelmin response from photographers that wanted to help the cause. Luckily I now have someone to help with the administrative work involved. Having that responsibility off my plate will free me up to do more public relations on behalf of the photographers in our network. Awareness is everything - both about breast cancer and about our organisation - so I want to let the world know we exist@ If you join our network, tell everyone you about Think Pink and tell them to spread the word too!

Tell us about iThinkTink…
www.iThinkTink.com
I’m also Tink - the photographer behind iThinkTink. I’ve created a variety of business tools - for organisation, accounting, marketing and design - for my own business. After sharing ideas on a few online communities, I saw the need to offer these creations to other photographers. So many of us want to focus on photography rather than on business tools, so I provide these templates to make your job easier! Whether you have been in business for years or you are just starting out, these tools and templates will definitely save you time (and hopefully headaches!). Yes, I am weird - I love the creative side of photography, and I love the analytical side of business! I have a strong attention to details that I hope shows in these products. So check things out at the site and the blog and when your colleagues ask you where your templates came from… thell them “When it comes to business… i Think Tink!”

img_6336.jpg

What is the one thing you can’t live without (no cheating and saying family and friends)?
For work, definitely my Wacom tablet. I really have no idea how I used to work without one. For life in general - coffee - nothing fancy - hot and black. My latest kick is Dunkin Donuts French Vanilla.

If you were entered in a talent show you would…
OMG - I have no real talents outside of photography. I’m your jack of all trades, master of none.

img_4415.jpg

What turns you on?
I love when people aren’t afraid to be themselves, even if they are going against what is normal and expected. (And the Apple logo - that turns me on - that’s hot!)

What turns you off?
When people don’t stay true to who they are.

What’s on your iPod?
I have such a variety of music - all genres and oldies to current. Right now I’m playing OneRepublic and Natasha Bedingfield a lot. I’m obsessed with my iPod Touch!

Mac or PC?
Mac ALL THE WAY. It’s the only way to go. We are a bit Apple obsessed in our house.

Exciting changes

As you probably already know I’m Ren… creator of all things vibe. I’m not the most organised person in the world… not in my personal life and not even (I’m ashamed to admit) in business. If you’ve been following along with the blog for a while (I love you) then you’ll notice that I post a little randomly…

You can also catch me on various messages boards as Ren or LadyRen - althought I’m posting a LOT less on them at the moment since I’m so busy! I post frequently on Pay It Forward, work with a small community of Aussie photographers on getting senior photography happening down under and have my own photography business… all this while my ninth and tenth hands attempt to clean my house, massage my fantastic husband’s shoulders once in a while and hold my four amazing children often.

In the interests of getting more then 4 hours sleep a night the vibe blog is changing a little - and for the better! Each month there is going to be a general theme. I’m going to interview some fantastic photographers and there’s going to be a hot photo contest with some rockin’ prizes. New products will be released and ALWAYS someone will win something just for commenting right here on the blog.

Outside of the theme I’ll still be posting Before & Afters, tutorials and show off all the design goodies I’ve been creating for clients. Remember, if you have a photo you’d like to see on Before & After send it to vibephoto@gmail.com with ‘Before & After’ in the subject line. This email is ONLY for photos, so if you need to get in contact with me, email contact@viberesources.com and please allow 48 hours for a reply.

Soooooo…. I hope that you’re as excited as I am about the changes!

LoGo-a-GoGo Sale!

Back by popular demand… the LoGo-a-GoGo Sale!

Here’s the deal:
The custom logo design process starts with 3 - 5 initial concepts. When the ink is dry on a clients shiny new logo there sits alone in a cupboard the unused concepts. Some of them are afraid of the dark and really, it’s not fair to leave them there… alone… quiet… gathering dust.

What to do? Aaaah… have a LoGo-a-GoGo Sale! of course!!!

A custom designed logo costs $200. For $100 you can snap up one of these designs. You will receive the full resolution .psd file as well as .jpg and .png files. If you’d like a watermark created there is an additional cost. The cost includes a colour and text change.

If you see a logo you like but would like a little tweaking, email me and we’ll discuss it.

Quick! These will go on a first come, first served basis - do not delay! Email me with the subject line LoGo-a-GoGo Sale! and the number of the design your are wishing to adopt. eg (LoGo-a-GoGo Sale #7). contact@viberesources.com Please do NOT send payment until you receive confirmation from me that the logo you have chosen is still available. Payment is required within 24 hours. As logos are adopted I will update this post as soon as possible.

***** UPDATE *****
The logos with a red number have been reserved. Once payment has been received for these, they will be stamped with the ‘adopted’ stamp. If payment hasn’t been received in 24 hours their numbers will turn back to black and you can snap them up for yourself!

Before & After #2

I love this shot of my daughter. The blowout on her hair kinda bugs me but not enough to bin it.

before2.jpg

I ran Defog at 75% strength. I don’t usually have it that strong for portraits but with the backlighting in this photo it’s a little hazy and the extra strength helps to clear it up. After that I used Lemon Sherbet (also available for PSE users). After running the action her hair was more blown out then before so I masked that back at 60%. I used the Toothbrush and Bright Eyes actions before resizing and sharpening for web.

after2.jpg

I love the retro 70s feel that I was left with.

Mothering Joy

I almost wrote Mothering Duty as the title and then changed it to joy.

I was blog hopping just recently and came across Jessica Bell’s blog again. It’s been a while since I hung out over there so I was reading and scrolling and came across one of the those “Which…… are you?” and decided to take it.

Which TV Mom Are You?

My Result: Roseanne Connor

Take this test!

You are Roseanne Connor from Roseanne. You’ve probably got a sarcastic streak, and you may take some pleasure in embarrassing your brood. But ultimately, your kids know that when they really, really, really need to talk about something, you will listen…eventually. Truth is, you tend to see things from their points of view; you just don’t like to let them in on that until necessary.
That’s your little secret. And while it may not be your style (or fit your schedule) to compulsively whip up a batch of chocolate chip cookies, if your kids want to microwave some popcorn and watch TV with you, there’s always room on the couch, and even on your lap.

What are you?
http://web.tickle.com/jumpto?test=tvmomogt&c=50652

When I first saw Roseanne Connor face I was a little horrified. I know I’ve been slipping in the mothering stakes lately but I didn’t think it was that bad. Then I read the description and figured it’s not so bad after all. I am sarcastic and I’m not one of those apron mommas with homemade afternoon tea every day. I’m NOT saying there is anything wrong with those mommas… I’m just not one of them.

So… I’m out of the office for the weekend. The quiz didn’t send me there though. My kids have been saying they want to do more stuff together so I’m turning the internet off for the weekend. Omgosh… total shock horror. I might pop on after they’re in bed but not sure.

This afternoon we bought Lego City Firestation and have already put together the little car and we’re half way through the truck. We’re planning on having it all builty by the end of the weekend and we want to rebuild the Lego City Police Mobile Station so we can have it all looking pretty together. We also have a jigsaw to finish (of repetitive candies - ugh), home made jam drops to make (I know…. I didn’t say that I COULDN’T cook - just that I don’t), photos to pick out, run out, print and scrapbook pages to be made.

On a sad note… Bailey (my oldest at 10yo) has decided that he’s too grown up to scrapbook and would prefer to paint his warhammer figurines with his father thank you very much. *sigh*

If you send me an email this weekend, please don’t think I’m ignoring you… I’ll get to it on Monday/Tuesday for sure.

A new logo for

Mary Warren Photography

mary1.jpg

Mary was after something with a little vintage and texture. This nifty little watermark will soon be adorning her photographs too.

mary2.jpg

I’ve used my own snapshots in the blog banner here so I could post and share with you all. I’m sure that Mary Anne is going to place some amazing photos when she fits it into her blog, completely putting me to shame… but I can handle it.
